Critics are lining up to praise John Hurt’s return to Samuel Beckett’s work. Reprising the role of Krapp inKrapp’s Last Tape, Hurt is currently starring in a production at Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Lansburgh Theatre in Washington DC. Sophie Gilbert praises the play in the Washingtonian, awarding it four stars out of four. Writing for We Love DC, Jen Larsen describes the experience as ’55 minutes of your life spent watching a master actor perform a master playwright’s reflection on the absurdity of life, memory and regret‘. While in DC Theatre Scene, John Barry singles Hurt out for special praise: ‚ I couldn’t help thinking that it’s a play that John Hurt has been waiting for decades to act in.‘
